Name: Gina Miller
Title: Public Records Coordinator
Agency: Washington State Patrol
Are you a Certified PRO? Yes
Q. How many years have you been a Public Records Officer (PRO)?
I have been in public records since October 2010.
Q. What is one public records tip or best practice you have gleaned from your work that you would pass on to others in this field of work?
I strive to complete all records requests within five days of receiving them. If the request is lengthy, I will send an extension letter.
Q. How did you get involved with WAPRO?
My supervisor is a CPRO. She encouraged her staff to become certified if they were interested.
Q. What do you consider the biggest public records challenge (either with the PRA or holding a position responsible for compliance with the PRA)?
The biggest challenge is the requests from open government requestors. They fill the request with RCWs and WACs. Then in a small one-line sentence they will ask for one item. It is very time consuming to sort through those requests and determine if in fact they are asking for something.
Q. What is your favorite motto/quote?
Do it right the first time.
Q. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy spending time with my children, gardening, being at the beach, doing arts and crafts, and just relaxing in the yard listening to music.
